I had an interesting conversation today with a friend discussing purpose. I love our Monday discussions because they are always full of life and many times opposition…even though she and I share very similar values and “purpose”. I love that I am provoked to think and sometimes even question my initial answers and reactions.

Ok, so back on topic. Purpose. She assumed because I was a mother that my son was my purpose. And to her, and maybe many of you, my answer was not what was expected. Yes, I am a mother and yes I would die for my son, but he is not my purpose. He makes my purpose that much more meaningful and I am hopeful that my purpose will live on in him. I am hopeful too that he will have HIS own purpose.

My son is my greatest reponsibility and love, no doubt; however, my purpose is to impact the world in a profound way. To be the change I wish to see in the world. To live without judgement and encourage others to have the strength to live a life of true happiness and fulfillment. That through strength of body, we find and can help develop strength of mind. That challenging ourselves physically directly translates to “life’s challenges” and how we receive them and overcome. That competition with self is amazing. That fitness is a powerful motivator and medicine. That balance can be achieved physically and therefore mentally. That what so many of us seek is that “feeling” that “endorphasm” and that I lose myself when I teach…I become the people I am fortunate enough to lead…I feel their pain, their love, their joy, their struggles, their achievements, their triumphs…I feel all of it…and it’s the most amazing thing.

We are all individuals first. My purpose became clear far before I decided to be a mother. And being a mother doesn’t change that purpose…it just makes it so much more profound. My purpose makes me a better mother. My son is amazing and he brings me so much joy…but it is nearly impossible for me to give or even receive joy without having possessed it first.

This site is for everyone, regardless of age or gender; it is for the individual whose best is under construction and wants to lead a life of optimal health and true happiness. EatThatMonkey.tv is not about fad diets and one-size-fits-all fitness, it is about optimizing health and performance of Body (using the I.I.T Method), Mind (Got Monkey?) and Soul (food for the soul-because good health starts from the inside out). These elements don’t operate independently. We will also discuss real issues that real people face regarding body image, sleep, relationships, parenting, what happens behind closed doors, and all other things related to “life.”

I spent so many years hating my body and not accepting it as it was. To compensate for my horrible self-image and lack of self-esteem, I took fat burners, went on every ridiculous diet on the market, over exercised after binging, and even went so far as taking hypo-thyroid medication to lean down to manage an out-of-control over eating problem. I did myself a great deal of emotional and physical damage with that state of mind. My journey, my transformation has been a lot of trial and error. I live it every day. I am a human being that struggles with the same choices as everyone else and knows how to facilitate change and create a life of total wellness.

Through a great deal of self-analysis and personal responsibility I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and become a better version of myself. The road was not always smooth and it took a significant amount of effort, but every step along the way has been worth every ounce of tears, sweat, and effort that I put in. Now, I want YOU to reach down deep and find the desire to uncover and unleash the most amazing version of yourself!
